Poll shows edge for Obama:
A new Democracy Corps survey in the 56 most-competitive Republican held congressional districts finds President Obama now edging Mitt Romney, 48% to 47%. In December, Obama trailed by seven points.
Key finding: "Democrats are winning the image battle, up and down the ticket. While half of the voters in these districts register cool feelings toward the Republican Party and Republican Congress, the Democratic Party has enjoyed an 8-point bump in favorability since September 2011, and Democrats in Congress have seen a 7-point rise."
Also interesting: "The Ryan budget is in trouble. Just 41% support it in these Republican districts with no description other than the fact that it cuts spending. When described, including using Ryan's own language, support collapses to 34%." From PoliticalWire.com, 4/18/12

PUSD Districting Measure:
Although a mail ballot showed that a plurality of members supports endorsement of the PUSD districting proposition it did not receive enough votes to be endorsed. (32 votes -57%-support, 20-36% oppose, 4-7% no endorsement). Thus ACT has an open endorsement on this matter.
Announcing the 2012 Judy Boggs Memorial Internships
ACT is soliciting applications and nominations for the Judy Boggs Memorial Internship. ACT is one of the oldest progressive grass-roots political organizations in Southern California. In memory of its long-time executive director, Judy Boggs, ACT will award stipends of up to $3,000 to two outstanding students to intern at the Pasadena Area United Democratic Headquarters during the three months leading up to the November 2012 general election.
The goals of the internship program are: to give interns experience in all aspects of a local campaign; to provide an opportunity to meet and work with candidates and elected officials; and to develop potential future leaders in local politics.
Preference will be given to students in good standing at a local college, university or graduate school, although recent graduates may also be considered. Applicants must demonstrate an interest in good government and electoral politics; possess a commitment to progressive issues and political grassroots participation; and be able to commit at least 20 hours a week to working in the United Democratic Headquarters.
Interested students are asked to submit a letter of application along with a resume, to be followed by an interview. Applications must be received no later than Wednesday, August 1, 2012. For further details, e-mail Fred Register at:
